Experience System — Leveling Guide
How EXP works on MajesticMU: the four leveling phases, no-split party EXP, the dynamic catch-up boost, and the level penalty — plus how to level fastest.
Overview
Your character grows through four progression phases, each with its own EXP rate. On top of the base rate, several bonuses can stack to make you level faster:
- Party EXP — group up without losing experience
- Catch-up (Dynamic) EXP — bonus EXP if you're behind the top players
And one thing that can slow you down:
- Level penalty — fighting monsters far above your level earns less EXP
Your Total Level = your Normal Level + your Master/Majestic Level. Almost every bonus is calculated from your Total Level.
The Four Phases of Leveling
| Phase | Levels | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| 1 — Normal | 1 – 400 | Your base character levels. Level 400 is the Normal cap. |
| 2 — Master | 401 – 800 | Master Skill Tree levels (3rd class). |
| 3 — Majestic | 801 – 1300 | Majestic levels (4th & 5th class). |
| 4 — Endgame | 1301 – 1750 | True endgame grind for the very top players. |
Rates ramp down slightly inside the early phases (a fast "rush" at low level that tapers as you approach each cap), then jump up massively when you enter the next phase. The server is tuned so dedicated players reach around level 1200 in ~2 months of active play.
Party EXP — group up, lose nothing
This is the big one. On MajesticMU, party members do not split EXP. Every eligible party member receives the full experience from each kill — exactly what they'd earn solo — and larger parties earn a small bonus on top.
| Party size | EXP each member gets |
|---|---|
| 1 – 3 players | 100% of the kill's EXP (full, no split) |
| 4 players | +2% bonus (regular) / +3% (matched-class party) |
| 5 players | +4% bonus (regular) / +6% (matched-class party) |
To receive party EXP you must be:
- On the same map as the killer, and
- Within 9 tiles of them when the monster dies.
A "matched-class" (set) party — a balanced team of different classes — earns the slightly higher bonus shown above. Bottom line: partying is always at least as good as soloing, so team up whenever you can.
Catch-up (Dynamic) EXP Boost — for players who are behind
To help newer and lower-level players keep pace, MajesticMU grants bonus EXP based on how far the top of the ladder has pulled ahead. The system watches the 5th-ranked player's Total Level and unlocks bonus tiers for everyone below them.
| When the #5 player reaches… | Your Total Level | Catch-up bonus |
|---|---|---|
| 400+ | 1 – 350 | +40% |
| 700+ | 1 – 600 | +100% |
| 950+ | 1 – 700 | +180% |
| 950+ | 701 – 900 | +90% |
| 1150+ | 1 – 900 | +250% |
| 1150+ | 901 – 1100 | +125% |
| 1350+ | 1 – 1100 | +350% |
| 1350+ | 1101 – 1300 | +175% |
| 1550+ | 1 – 1300 | +500% |
| 1550+ | 1301 – 1500 | +250% |
How it works in practice:
- The further the server's leaders progress, the bigger the boost low/mid players receive — so you can always catch up.
- The boost is applied automatically and updates as you level and as the leaderboard moves.
- Players near the very top get no catch-up bonus (they are the top).
- Type
/expboostin-game at any time to see your current catch-up bonus.
Level Penalty — don't punch too far above your weight
If you kill a monster whose level is higher than yours, you earn less EXP from it:
- −10% EXP for each level the monster is above you,
- down to a floor of 30% (you never earn less than 30% of the EXP),
- the penalty maxes out at a 7-level gap.
Monsters at or below your level give full EXP. The takeaway: hunt monsters near your own level for the best experience per kill — chasing mobs far above you actually slows you down.
Best Hunting Spots by Level (Normal Phase)
To dodge the level penalty, stay on maps where the monsters sit around your own level. Solid spots through the Normal phase:
| Level | Best Map | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1–80 | Lorencia / Noria / Devias | Starter zones |
| 80–180 | Dungeon / Tarkan | Faster EXP |
| 180–280 | Icarus / Atlans 3 | Good density |
| 280–400 | Lost Tower / Aida | Fastest in range |
How to Level the Fastest
- Always party up. You keep 100% of your EXP and gain a bonus in groups of 4–5 — there's no downside.
- Hunt at your level. Pick a spot where the monsters are around your level to avoid the level penalty.
- Use the catch-up boost. If you're behind the leaders, you may be earning a huge bonus already — check it with
/expboost. - Push for the next phase. EXP rates jump dramatically at 401 (Master) and 801 (Majestic) — each cap you break opens a much faster tier.
